FreeBSD

FreeBSD is an operating system based on UNIX functionalities. It’s a free but complete operating system designed with the kernel, user utilities, device drivers and a CVS (source code revision tracking tree). It’s published as Linux distribution.

The name was given to it because of its open source features. If any bug is reported, you are free to rectify it and send in the new code. As, the whole source code is freely available.

FreeBSD is a robust, efficient and reliable operating system with accurate uptime reporting feature. The FreeBSD is regarded as the best operating system for web servers. It provides binary compatibility for several operating systems with Linux including. This helps in the execution of multiple softwares developed for different platforms. Similarly certain commercial applications are distributed in binary form; hence control over code is needed for FreeBSD porting. Hence, all such Linux binaries can be executed successfully on FreeBSD.
